More often than not, the Americans I met in Haifa were ready to redefine their lives as Israelis rather than hang on childishly to their homesickness. But in the spirit of my naïve nostalgia, I use my camera to unearth any indications of our American past, both modest and grand, as well as to document the people that I meet.

What motivated me to photograph Americans in Haifa was my intense curiosity to know why others like me made the decision to come here. I wondered how they were managing in Israel and if their new lives would appear similar to mine now. Before starting the project, I was sure that every American I would meet garnered the same bittersweet feelings toward our home country and the lifestyle we left. I pictured in my mind walls of red, white and blue paraphernalia as well as sentimental items -maybe family mementos that they could not live without.
